Ian Alexander, MD is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon at Cleveland Clinic practicing primarily at Medina Hospital, part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System. Ian trained in Orthopaedic surgery in Canada at the University of Western Ontario and did his fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
In 1993, he was award the Humana Award for outstanding research by the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and from 2010 through 2012 served on that organization’s board of directors. Ian has extensive experience speaking nationally in the US and internationally including invitations as a keynote speaker at national and international meetings in Canada, England, Argentina, Belgium, Switzerland, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, Germany and others.
His interest in information technology led to his starting a software company in the mid-1990s and he is currently involved in the formation of an international foot and ankle data center for the analysis of outcomes of foot and ankle therapeutic interventions. Most recently Ian was at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio where he was Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
He has been a member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic since September of 2012. His current practice consists primarily of complex hindfoot and ankle reconstructive surgery and salvage of failed foot and ankle surgeries.
Ian has been married for 37 years and has 4 children. His recreational time is spent biking and in winter, he likes to head to the western US to ski.
